Attention JD students, one and all!
Textbooks away, pens down, and anestinotes tab closed, please – Purely Dicta has arrived for 2018!
On behalf of the Melbourne University Law Students’ Society (your friendly neighbourhood LSS), it is my pleasure to welcome you to our own little magazine.
JD students, Purely Dicta is the place to get your creative juices flowing. In this degree, it’s so easy to forget that you’re not just a Law Student – but you’re also a photographer, or a cook, or a sketch-maniac, or a film-lover, or something else that’s not allocated 120 hours in the yellow pages at the front of your readings.
So take a deep breath and write that poem you were mentally writing while waiting for the lifts from L3; finish that carrot cake recipe you were daydreaming about during Property; reacquaint yourself with the part of your brain that takes over when you start a new drawing.
The LSS is stoked to be producing Purely Dicta again for JD students in 2018. Supporting JD students is what we do — and Purely Dicta is just a part of that.
From STS tutorials to help consolidate what you’re learning, to Book Fairy to help students afford textbooks, to running a great blow-off-steam night at Law Ball (don’t miss your tickets!), the LSS is here to enrich your time at MLS, and to support you through this full-on degree. If you have any queries about the LSS or would like a chat, don’t be a stranger: come on up to the office on L2, or flick me an email at lss-president@unimelb.edu.au.
For now – sit back, switch off, and enjoy the fabulous magazine that Amy and the team have put together. Whether you’ve contributed, or are having a blast reading and are thinking of contributing next time – congratulations and thanks!
I can’t wait to see how this cohort of brainiacs uses the other parts of its brain.
Cheers,
Gus Viola
LSS President 2017-2018
